The houses
Is it Tanya’s or Tania’s Cozy House?
Tanya’s. The house is named after Vangelis’s wife, Tanya, and the one next door after their daughter, Gina. On Booking.com it is listed as “Tanyas Cozy House”, and some older pages spell it “Tania’s”: it is the same house.
What is the difference between the two houses?
Gina’s Cozy House has 58 m² and sleeps up to three, with a queen-size bed and a sofa bed, and one step at the door. Tanya’s Cozy House has 63 m² and sleeps up to four, with a double bed, a single bed and a sofa bed, and five steps up to the door. Both have a bedroom, a bathroom with a washing machine, a living room with kitchen, and a private courtyard with a pergola, a jacuzzi and a barbecue.
How many people can stay?
Up to three in Gina’s house and up to four in Tanya’s. Families or two couples can book both houses together when both are free.
Are the houses next to each other?
Yes. They stand side by side in the centre of Kamilari, but each is completely independent, with its own entrance and courtyard.
Is there a jacuzzi?
Each house has its own private jacuzzi outdoors in the courtyard. It runs from early May to the end of October.
Are there stairs?
Gina’s house has one step at the door. Tanya’s has five steps up to the entrance.
Prices and booking
How much does it cost?
€700 a week per house for two people. From November to the end of March the price is 20% lower. Each extra guest costs €20 a night. The Greek climate resilience fee is paid on top.
What is the minimum stay?
5 nights.
Is it cheaper to book directly?
Yes. You get the best price by booking directly with Vangelis, and you deal with him from the first message.
How do I pay?
30% by bank transfer when you book, and the rest in cash when you arrive.
How do I know if my dates are free?
The calendar shows the free and taken nights of each house. It is updated every hour from the booking platforms, so it can be a few hours behind. Vangelis confirms every enquiry himself.
When are the houses open?
All year. The houses are heated in winter, and tavernas and shops in the area stay open.
Arriving
What time is check-in and check-out?
Arrival is from 15:00 and departure by 11:00.
How do I get the keys?
Vangelis sends you the location and meets you at the house himself. Arriving late at night is no problem.
How do I get there from the airport?
Heraklion airport is about 1 hour 15 minutes away by car. Vangelis recommends Giorgos for a taxi, about €80 from Heraklion. See Getting here.
Is there parking?
Yes, right next to the houses.
Do I need a car?
Not for a quiet stay. The village has a supermarket open all year, a pharmacy, an ATM, a doctor and a bus stop, and the square is a few steps away. To explore Phaistos, Matala and the south coast, a car helps a lot.
During your stay
What is included?
Weekly cleaning and a change of sheets, Wi-Fi over Starlink, a washing machine, a barbecue and sunbeds in the courtyard, and beach towels, an umbrella and sunbeds to take to the beach. Wine, fruit and Vangelis’s raki are waiting when you arrive.
Is it comfortable in July and August?
It is summer in Crete, so the days are hot. Both houses have fan-coil cooling, the courtyards are shaded by pergolas, and the jacuzzi is there for the evening.
Is it warm in winter?
Yes. The same fan-coil system heats the houses.
Can I bring children or a pet?
Children are welcome, and a cot and a high chair are available on request. Pets are not allowed.
Are there bicycles?
Vangelis has bicycles for guests. Ask him before you arrive.
Which languages does Vangelis speak?
English, German and Greek.
Are the houses officially registered?
Yes. The registration numbers are at the foot of every page: ΜΗΤΕ 1070864 and ΑΜΑ 00001309540.
